Devara Box Office Day 1: A Grand Opening
Junior NTR’s film Devara made a significant impact on the box office on its very first day. The film’s opening day collections surpassed those of Thalapathy Vijay’s The GOAT and Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2. Devara’s first-day collections are notably higher than all Bollywood films released this year, and it is projected to become one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. The film saw exceptionally high occupancy, with late-night shows at 1 AM and 4 AM in Telugu states running housefull and fully packed. This high attendance at midnight screenings contributed to a powerful earning in the Telugu states on the first day. The film also received a strong response in Karnataka and a decent response in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Surprisingly, Devara has also started well in the Hindi market on its opening day.
Devara: Budget, Screens, and Pre-Release Recovery
Devara was released globally across 6000 screens in five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. The Hindi version alone accounted for approximately 2000 screens. The film’s total budget stands at approximately ₹300 crore. Before its release, the film’s makers had already generated earnings exceeding its budget. The digital rights for all five languages were sold for ₹155 crore. Additionally, overseas theatrical rights were sold for ₹26 crore. Through the sale of digital, satellite, music, and theatrical rights, the film achieved a total pre-release recovery of ₹446 crore. This meant that the makers secured a profit exceeding ₹146 crore from their ₹300 crore investment before the film’s release.
Box Office Performance Metrics for Devara
For Devara to achieve a “Hit” status at the box office, it requires a worldwide gross collection of ₹360 crore. Should the film’s worldwide gross collection exceed ₹400 crore, it would be deemed a “Superhit.” A worldwide gross collection ranging from ₹500 crore, ₹550 crore, or ₹600 crore would classify the film as a “Blockbuster.” These benchmarks are based on the worldwide theatrical rights, which were sold for ₹183 crore.
Devara Day 1 India Box Office Collection
On its first day, Devara garnered a better response in its home market of Telugu states compared to Prabhas’ Kalki. The film recorded an approximate gross collection of ₹75 crore from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on its opening day. From Karnataka, Devara collected an estimated gross of ₹8 crore on its first day, with most of these collections attributed to the Telugu version. In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the film achieved a decent response, accumulating approximately ₹5 crore gross on its first day. The Hindi market (North India), where Devara was released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu versions, saw an approximate gross collection of ₹8 crore on its opening day. The overall first-day gross collection across all five languages in India for Devara reached approximately ₹100 crore, indicating that the film earned over ₹100 crore from India alone on its opening day.
Devara First Day Worldwide Box Office Collections
Including paid previews and its first-day collections, Devara accumulated approximately ₹45 crore from the overseas market. The film’s estimated first-day worldwide box office collection stands in the range of ₹145 crore. With this ₹145 crore opening, Devara has become the second-biggest opener among Indian films in 2024. The biggest Indian opener of 2024 remains Kalki, which had a first-day worldwide collection exceeding ₹160 crore. Thalapathy Vijay’s film The GOAT is now in the third position, having earned approximately ₹125-126 crore on its opening day.
Future Box Office Trends for Devara
Devara has made a strong start at the box office on its first day. While South Indian films typically exhibit impressive collections during their initial three days, their box office figures often see a considerable drop by Monday. The film’s lifetime collection trajectory will become clearer after the Monday collections are reported. Junior NTR’s previous film, RRR, earned over ₹1200 crore worldwide. There are expectations that Devara could also potentially reach the ₹1000 crore mark at the box office.
