Thalapathy Vijay’s film Leo has made history at the box office, becoming the biggest opening Indian film of 2023. Leo also surpassed Shah Rukh Khan’s film Jawan in terms of opening day records. The film was made on a budget of approximately ₹300 crore and was released in five languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. In the Hindi market, Leo was released only in single screens.

Beyond India, Leo also saw a significant collection from overseas markets, earning approximately ₹65 crore on its first day. Combining the India and overseas collections, Leo achieved a first-day worldwide gross collection of ₹145 crore. This makes Leo the biggest opening film of 2023 worldwide, surpassing Adipurush, which had collected ₹140 crore worldwide, and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. Leo’s reviews have been decent.
Bhagavant Kesari Box Office Performance: Strong Opening Day
Nandamuri Balakrishna’s film Bhagavant Kesari, made on a budget of ₹110 crore, was released only in Telugu on 1900 screens worldwide. The film received decent to positive reviews and delivered a powerful opening despite competing with Leo. In the Telugu states, the film received a very good response, with morning and afternoon shows maintaining an occupancy of approximately 80-85%. Evening and night show bookings were also solid. Bhagavant Kesari’s first-day India collection is reported to be approximately ₹25 crore, with a worldwide gross collection of approximately ₹32 crore.
Ghost Box Office: First Day Collections and Budget
The Kannada film Ghost, starring Shri Shivrajkumar and Anupam Kher, was made on a budget of ₹60 crore and released across 1200 screens in all languages, including a Hindi version. The film’s Hindi market buzz was not significant, leading to a modest opening in Hindi. However, Ghost’s first-day all-India collection was approximately ₹6 crore, and its worldwide collection was approximately ₹8 crore. The film has received completely positive reviews.
