Pushpa 2’s Record-Breaking Box Office Run
Allu Arjun’s mega blockbuster film Pushpa 2 achieved record-breaking earnings at the box office for two weeks. Despite the entry of new Bollywood and South Indian films in its third week, which led to a significant reduction in screen count, Pushpa 2 continues to earn rapidly.
The film, released on December 5th, secured the biggest opening in Indian cinema, generating historical collections across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Bengali languages. Notably, the film’s earnings in the Hindi market surpassed its performance in the South, with its first-day Hindi collection being the largest in Bollywood history to date. Pushpa 2 also recorded a historical first-week collection, and its second-week earnings exceeded the first-week collections of many Bollywood films.
In the Hindi market, Pushpa 2’s screens were heavily reduced in the third week due to new releases from Bollywood, South Indian cinema, and Hollywood. The film was completely removed from PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis multiplex chains in North India due to a major deal between the makers of the Hollywood film Mufasa and these multiplexes. Despite this, Pushpa 2 continues to perform strongly in single screens and other multiplex chains. Similar screen reductions were observed in the South due to new Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada releases, as well as the release of Mufasa.

This brings Pushpa 2’s total Hindi net collection over 16 days to 642 crore. The Hindi gross collection stands at 763 crore. Pushpa 2 has emerged as the highest-earning film in Hindi cinema, receiving the “Mega Blockbuster” tag at the box office.

UI Film’s First Day Box Office Performance
The pan-India film UI, directed by and starring Kannada cinema’s Upendra, has made its box office debut. While the film’s previous pan-India release, Kabza, did not perform well, UI has returned to the pan-India market. It was released on a good number of screens in the South, but with very limited screens and no promotion in the Hindi market, leading to anticipated low Hindi collections.
With a budget of approximately 100 crore, UI was released worldwide on 2000 screens across five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. The film received the best response in Karnataka and a decent response in the Telugu states. However, it saw fewer screens and a lukewarm reception in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Hindi market. Based on initial reports, UI’s first-day India gross collection is approximately 13 crore, with its first-day worldwide collection estimated to be in the range of 15 crore. The film’s opening is considered decent given its budget.
Mufasa’s Strong India Box Office Opening
Hollywood film Mufasa, released in India in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, has had a strong box office opening. The franchise holds significant value and a substantial fan following in India. The involvement of Shah Rukh Khan providing a voice-over in Hindi and Mahesh Babu in Telugu further heightened the film’s hype in India.
The film was released on approximately 1500 screens across India in four languages. With expensive ticket rates, Mufasa is estimated to achieve an India net collection of approximately 12 crore on its first day, resulting in a first-day India gross collection of 15 crore. While worldwide box office collections will be reported from the next day, the film has secured a robust opening in India, with expectations of a significant surge in collections over the weekend.
Vanvaas First Day Collections
Bollywood film Vanvaas, a family drama directed by Anil Sharma (who previously helmed the mega-blockbuster Gadar 2), features Nana Patekar, Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur, and Rajpal Yadav. Despite an impressive trailer, the film’s pre-release buzz was low due to insufficient promotion by the makers.
The film has a total budget of 50 crore. Prior to its release, 31 crore was recovered through the sale of digital rights (16 crore), satellite rights (12 crore), and music rights (3 crore). Due to competition from multiple major films, Vanvaas secured only 800 screens. The occupancy rates were modest, with morning shows recording 10-11% occupancy and decent bookings for afternoon, evening, and night shows. Based on available reports, Vanvaas recorded an estimated first-day box office collection of approximately 2 crore, indicating a slow opening.
