Animal Box Office: Worldwide Collection and 1st Day Earnings Revealed

Animal Box Office: Worldwide Collection and 1st Day Earnings Revealed

Animal’s Record-Breaking Opening Performance

The film Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, achieved a significant milestone by surpassing Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 on its first day at the box office. This performance positioned Animal as one of the biggest opening films of 2023.

Strong Advance Booking Trends

Animal demonstrated strong performance in advance bookings, outperforming many major Bollywood and Pan-India films of 2023.

Global Screen Count and Production Budget

Animal was released across 4000 screens in India and approximately 2500 screens overseas, bringing its total worldwide screen count to 6500. The film’s production cost was 100 crore, with an additional 35 crore spent on promotions, leading to a total budget of 135 crore. Ranbir Kapoor opted to take 35% of the film’s profit share instead of a direct fee. It was noted that if Ranbir Kapoor’s fee had been included, the film’s budget would have exceeded 300 crore. Should the film achieve collections between 500-700 crore, Ranbir Kapoor’s share could range from 100-200 crore.

Significant Pre-Release Revenue

Before its theatrical release, Animal generated substantial revenue through the sale of various rights. The digital rights for all five languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada) were sold to Netflix for 150 crore. Satellite rights for the same five languages were acquired by Sony Set India for 80 crore. Additionally, music rights for all five languages contributed 5 crore. This amounted to a total of 235 crore in pre-release earnings, which was considerably more than its budget.

Animal First Day Box Office Collections

On its first day, Animal witnessed robust morning show occupancy, ranging from 80% to 85% in major cities, with many shows reporting as houseful. The estimated Hindi net collection for the first day was approximately 45 crore. Collections from South Indian languages (Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada) collectively contributed about 12 crore to the first day’s India net collection, with the Telugu version being the highest earner among them. Consequently, the film’s first day All India net collection across all five languages reached 57 crore. The first day All India gross collection was 68 crore. Overseas collections, combining premiere day and first day figures, were approximately 40 crore.

Worldwide Opening Day Milestones

Animal achieved a first day worldwide gross collection of 108 crore across all languages. This made it the biggest opening film of Ranbir Kapoor’s career. Ranbir Kapoor also became the second Bollywood superstar, following Shah Rukh Khan, to have a film earn over 100 crore worldwide on its first day. Previously, only two Bollywood films, Pathaan and Jawan, both starring Shah Rukh Khan, had achieved a worldwide opening of over 100 crore. The future trajectory of the film’s lifetime collection is yet to be seen, with possibilities ranging from surpassing 1000 crore like Jawan and Pathaan, or settling around 600-700 crore.
