Kanappa Box Office: Pan-India Debut & Day 2 Collections
The pan-India film Kanappa had a strong start at the box office, with its second-day collections also proving impressive. This Telugu film, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and starring Vishnu Manchu, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohan Lal, and Mohan Babu, was released in five languages: Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. It secured the biggest opening of Vishnu Manchu’s career. While the film saw its highest collections from the Telugu language, its performance in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam was not particularly strong. Hindi collections were lower than anticipated, as the film faced screen competition from Aamir Khan’s “Sitare Zameen Par” and Kajol’s “Ma,” making it “sandwiched” in the Hindi market. Despite this, the film received mixed to positive reviews, sparking hope for increased Hindi earnings in the coming days.
With a reported budget of ₹200 crore, Kanappa was released on 3400 screens worldwide across all five languages. The film’s makers did not secure digital, satellite, or music rights before release, meaning all initial earnings are solely from the box office. On its first day, Kanappa achieved an India Net Collection of ₹15 crore 28 lakh across all languages. On its second day, while other South Indian films typically see a 60% drop in occupancy, Kanappa’s occupancy dropped by only 30 to 35%, resulting in an estimated India Net Collection of approximately ₹9.5 crore. This brings Kanappa’s total India Net Collection for the first two days to ₹24 crore 78 lakh, with an India Gross Collection of ₹29 crore 51 lakh. Internationally, the film earned ₹7 crore 93 lakh from the overseas market, contributing to a two-day worldwide box office collection of ₹37 crore 44 lakh.
Ma Box Office: Strong Opening and 2-Day Worldwide Total
The fantasy horror mythology thriller film Ma, directed by Vishal Furia and starring Kajol and Rohini Roy, opened better than expected. Produced by Ajay Devgan with a budget of ₹40 crore, the film was released on 1500 screens worldwide. Receiving positive reviews, Ma recorded a robust opening day collection. The film continued its strong performance on the second day, with higher morning occupancy and significantly better bookings for afternoon, evening, and night shows compared to its opening day.
On its first day, Kajol’s Ma garnered an India Net Collection of ₹4 crore 26 lakh. Following this, the film collected an estimated ₹5 crore 25 lakh India Net on its second day. This brings Ma’s total India Net Collection for two days to ₹9 crore 51 lakh. The India Gross Collection stands at ₹11 crore 29 lakh. Globally, Ma’s two-day worldwide box office collection reached ₹12 crore 87 lakh, indicating a good earning performance relative to its budget in its initial days.
Kubera Box Office: 9-Day Worldwide Performance & India Net
The action-drama social thriller film Kubera, directed by Sekhar Kammula and featuring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, completed its first week by crossing the ₹100 crore mark worldwide. This Tamil-Telugu film was released on June 20 in Hindi and other South Indian languages. Currently in its second week, Kubera has seen a significant reduction in screen count due to new film releases in both South Indian and Bollywood markets. Despite fewer screens, the film continues to show strong box office collections. The film is entirely out of the Hindi market, with its maximum collections coming from Telugu, followed by Tamil, while it has also been removed from other languages.
Kubera recorded an India Net Collection of ₹69 crore 21 lakh in its first week (7 days). On its eighth day, the second Friday, the film added ₹2 crore 12 lakh to its India Net collection. On the ninth day, a Saturday, the film saw a slight growth in occupancy compared to the previous day, earning an estimated ₹2 crore 50 lakh. With these figures, Kubera’s total India Net Collection for the first nine days stands at ₹73 crore 83 lakh, and its India Gross Collection is ₹87 crore 90 lakh. The film’s overseas gross collection has surpassed ₹30 crore, reaching ₹30 crore 42 lakh. Consequently, Kubera’s worldwide collection for the first nine days has reached ₹118 crore 32 lakh, nearing its budget of ₹120 crore.
Housefull 5 Box Office: Approaching ₹300 Crore Worldwide in Fourth Week
The comedy thriller Housefull 5, directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, and others, has completed 23 days in cinemas since its release on June 6. Currently in its fourth week, the film is running on approximately 500 to 600 screens across India with limited shows. Despite the reduced screen count and fewer shows, Housefull 5 continues to collect crores daily and is poised to soon join the ₹300 crore club worldwide.
In its initial three weeks (21 days), Housefull 5 amassed an India Net Collection of ₹193 crore 39 lakh. On its fourth Friday, the 22nd day, the film collected ₹1 crore 7 lakh at the Indian box office. On the 23rd day, a Saturday, while morning show occupancy remained similar to the previous day, afternoon, evening, and night show bookings significantly increased. As a result, Housefull 5 earned an estimated ₹1 crore 35 lakh from the Indian market on its 23rd day. This brings the film’s total India Net Collection for the first 23 days to ₹195 crore 81 lakh, and it is expected to cross the ₹200 crore India Net mark within a few days. The India Gross Collection stands at ₹233 crore 1 lakh. Overseas, the film has collected ₹58 crore 23 lakh. With these figures, Housefull 5’s worldwide collection for the first 23 days has reached ₹291 crore 24 lakh, confirming its imminent entry into the ₹300 crore club worldwide.
Sitare Zameen Par Box Office: Crossing ₹100 Crore India Net in 9 Days
The Bollywood comedy-drama sports film Sitare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna and starring Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh, is in its second week and continues to perform strongly at the box office. While the film had strong overseas collections in its first week, new Hollywood releases in the second week led to a reduction in its international screens, resulting in an overseas gross collection of ₹35 crore 62 lakh to date. In total, Sitare Zameen Par’s worldwide collection for the first nine days stands at ₹157 crore 12 lakh, having crossed the ₹150 crore mark globally. The film has already proven to be a hit based on its budget.
