Kannappa, Maa, and Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office Collections: A Day-by-Day Analysis of Prabhas and Akshay Kumar's Films

Kanappa’s Explosive First Day Box Office Performance

Pan-India film Kanappa made a significant impact on its first day at the box office. The presence of Prabhas and Akshay Kumar contributed to its remarkable opening. This action-drama fantasy period film was released in a total of five languages worldwide: Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil. Vishnu Manchu’s previous films did not achieve notable collections, but Kanappa’s opening collection surpasses the lifetime earnings of several films in his career. In fact, its first-day earnings exceed the lifetime collections of half of his career films.

The film’s advance booking saw over 1 lakh tickets sold within the first 24 hours of booking commencement. Kanappa was released globally on 3400 screens across all five languages, with a budget of ₹200 crore. On its first day, the film garnered a gross collection of ₹16 crore from the Telugu States (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana). In Karnataka, released in Telugu and Kannada, it earned approximately ₹3 crore. Due to Mohan Lal’s presence, the film secured a good opening in Kerala, collecting approximately ₹2 crore. Tamil Nadu saw earnings of around ₹1 crore. In the North Indian Hindi market, despite facing competition from Kajol’s ‘Maa’ and Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, which limited its screen count, Kanappa still managed to earn approximately ₹3 crore on its first day.

The all-India gross collection for Kanappa on its first day across all languages is approximately ₹25 crore. Additionally, the film collected around ₹5 crore from the overseas market on its opening day. This brings Kanappa’s first-day worldwide box office collection to ₹30 crore. To be considered a hit, the film needs to collect between ₹300 crore and ₹350 crore.

Sitaare Zameen Par’s Eight-Day Box Office Run

Aamir Khan’s film Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna, has an ₹80 crore budget. The movie had a slow start on its first day but saw excellent public reviews, leading to strong daily earnings and significant collections in its first week. In its second week, the film’s screen count was considerably reduced due to competition from new releases, including the Bollywood film ‘Maa’ and the Pan-India film ‘Kanappa’. Despite the reduced screens, the film’s collections continue at a good pace.

Sitaare Zameen Par accumulated an India net collection of ₹81 crore 91 lakh in its first six days. On its seventh day, it earned ₹7 crore 11 lakh from the Indian market. On its eighth day, with reduced screens, the film registered an 18-19% occupancy in morning shows, alongside strong bookings for afternoon, evening, and night shows. The film is estimated to collect approximately ₹4.5 crore in the Indian market on its eighth day.

Cumulatively, Sitaare Zameen Par’s India net collection for the first eight days stands at ₹93 crore 52 lakh, with an India gross collection of ₹111 crore 26 lakh. Its total eight-day worldwide box office collection has reached ₹146 crore 60 lakh. The film is projected to cross the ₹150 crore mark worldwide on its ninth day.

Maa Film’s First Day Worldwide Box Office Collection

Bollywood’s fantasy horror thriller film ‘Maa’, directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Ajay Devgan, was released this week. The film, starring Kajol and Ronit Roy, generated good excitement following its trailer and increased expectations due to its connection to Ajay Devgan’s ‘Shaitaan’ film universe. Despite advance bookings commencing only one day before its release, the film received a strong response in advance sales.

‘Maa’ faced significant competition from the Pan-India film ‘Kanappa’ and the previously released ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’. The film was released on approximately 1500 screens worldwide. Its budget escalated to ₹40 crore, largely due to extensive use of VFX. Prior to its release, the film had already recovered over ₹30 crore. Its digital rights were sold to Netflix for ₹16 crore, satellite rights for ₹10 crore, and music rights for ₹7 crore, totaling ₹33 crore in pre-release recovery.

On its first day, ‘Maa’ recorded decent occupancy in morning shows and satisfactory bookings for afternoon, evening, and night shows. The film’s first-day India net collection is approximately ₹3.5 crore, resulting in an India gross collection of ₹4 crore 16 lakh. Released on around 400 screens in the overseas market, the film earned ₹1 crore 25 lakh on its first day internationally. This brings ‘Maa’s first-day worldwide box office collection to ₹5 crore 41 lakh.
