Sitare Zameen Par Continues Record-Breaking Box Office Run

Superstar Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ is continuing its record-breaking earnings into its third week. The film’s worldwide collection has reached almost three times its budget. The sports drama comedy, starring Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh, surprised everyone, with initial expectations not reaching even ₹100 crore due to lack of buzz and its remake status. However, ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ defied expectations with strong earnings in its first week and maintained an excellent hold in its second week. Despite a decrease in screens due to new releases, the film achieved a significant collection in its third weekend.

With a budget of ₹80 crore, ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ has completed 17 days in cinemas. The film accumulated an India net collection of ₹137 crore 22 lakh in its initial 15 days. On its 16th day, a third Saturday, the film recorded a surprising India net collection of ₹5 crore 13 lakh. As of its 17th day, a Sunday, ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ is estimated to earn ₹6 crore 25 lakh in the Indian market, showing improved growth in morning shows and solid bookings for afternoon, evening, and night shows. This brings the initial 17-day India net collection for ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ to ₹148 crore 60 lakh. The India gross collection stands at ₹176 crore 23 lakh. Globally, the film has achieved a worldwide collection of ₹203 crore 11 lakh in 17 days, with expectations for it to surpass ₹250 crore worldwide in the coming days.

Thamudu’s Box Office Performance

The South Indian action drama film ‘Thamudu,’ starring Nitin Reddy and directed by Venu Sriram, was made on a budget of ₹35 crore. After three days in cinemas, the film has struggled at the box office. It received no major opening, and its collections saw no significant jump over the weekend. On its first day, ‘Thamudu’ recorded an India net collection of ₹2 crore 26 lakh. The second day saw slight growth, with the film earning ₹2 crore 31 lakh at the Indian box office. Reports indicate that ‘Thamudu’ is collecting ₹2 crore 65 lakh from India on its third day, with morning show occupancy increasing by only 10-12% compared to the first day. This brings the initial three-day India net collection for ‘Thamudu’ to ₹7 crore 22 lakh, with an India gross collection of ₹8 crore 59 lakh. Overseas collections were also quite low, resulting in a three-day worldwide collection of ₹11 crore 52 lakh. Given its ₹35 crore budget and three-day earnings in the ₹11.5 crore range, the film is poised to be a major flop.

The South Indian action drama fantasy period movie ‘Kanappa,’ starring Vishnu Manchu with powerful cameos from Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Mohanlal, was released with high expectations for strong collections in both the South and Hindi markets. However, the film received limited screens in Hindi, resulting in low collections in that market. In the South, its earnings were decent in the first week but significantly dropped in the second week. Made on a budget of ₹200 crore, ‘Kanappa’ was released in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

After 10 days in cinemas, ‘Kanappa’ recorded an India net collection of ₹37 crore 56 lakh across all languages in its initial eight days.
