War 2 Box Office: Historic Opening Day Performance
Superstar Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR’s War 2 made a significant impact at the box office upon its release. The film achieved historic earnings on its first day, not only in India but also in international markets. It has already become the biggest opener of 2025 from Bollywood. The film saw a spectacular start in Hindi, with equally strong collections in Telugu. However, War 2 did not make notable earnings in Tamil. The explosive collections from only Hindi and Telugu markets indicate a strong path towards becoming a big blockbuster. Fans of Jr. NTR and Hrithik Roshan contributed to the film being completely housefull worldwide on its first day.
The first-day collection of War 2 surpasses all previous YRF Spy Universe films. The record for the biggest opening in the Spy Universe was previously held by Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, but War 2 has achieved an even larger opening. The film was released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. War 2 was released on 10,000 screens worldwide, making it the highest screen count for a Spy Universe film to date. This includes 5,000 screens in the Hindi market alone and over 2,000 screens in the South.
War 2 Day 1 Collections and Financial Overview
The total budget for War 2 was ₹400 crore. The producers, YRF, had already recovered substantial amounts prior to the film’s release. The digital rights for all three languages sold for ₹145 crore, satellite rights for ₹95 crore, and music rights for ₹20 crore, totaling ₹260 crore from these avenues. The theatrical rights were also sold at significant prices: Telugu states for ₹90 crore, Hindi market for ₹150 crore, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka for ₹23 crore, and overseas theatrical rights for ₹102 crore. This brings the total worldwide theatrical rights to ₹365 crore. Combining the digital, satellite, music, and theatrical rights, the makers recovered ₹625 crore before release.
For War 2 to achieve a “clean hit” status at the box office, it needs to achieve a worldwide gross collection of at least ₹700 crore. On its first day, the film received a fantastic start in the Hindi market, even on a Thursday, with occupancy between 60-65% in metro cities and impressive response in single screens.

Coolie Box Office: Powerful Opening and Market Performance
Rajinikanth’s Coolie also started strongly at the box office, taking the biggest opening for Tamil cinema. The film made impressive earnings right after its release. Coolie was released in four languages globally: Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi. It was released on 75,000 screens worldwide, with the Hindi version securing approximately 1,400 screens in India, and the remaining 6,100 screens globally for other languages.

Both War 2 and Coolie have received a blockbuster response on their opening day. War 2 did not perform particularly well in Tamil due to Coolie‘s release. Conversely, Coolie received fewer screens in Telugu states and North India because of War 2. Looking ahead to August 15th, which is a holiday, both movies are expected to potentially see further explosive earnings.
