This week, Indian cinema saw a significant box office clash between two major films. Bollywood presented Hrithik Roshan and Junior NTR’s action film War 2, while Tamil cinema offered Superstar Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Aamir Khan’s Coolie. Both films have completed five days in cinemas, generating substantial earnings worldwide.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, was released in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi across 75,000 screens worldwide. Prior to its release, the film garnered over ₹100 crore in advance bookings. On its first day, Coolie collected over ₹150 crore worldwide. The film, released on a Thursday, benefited from a four-day weekend including holidays like August 15th and Janmashtami, alongside Sunday, leading to strong collections across all languages during this period.
The first weekend (four days) All India gross collections for Coolie were ₹243 crore 97 lakh. Regionally, the film earned a gross of ₹102 crore 23 lakh in Tamil Nadu. In the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Coolie collected ₹62 crore 14 lakh gross within four days. Kerala contributed ₹21 crore 57 lakh in gross collections over four days, despite a mixed response. Karnataka saw impressive gross collections of ₹34 crore 21 lakh during the first weekend. In the North India (Hindi) market, Coolie achieved a gross collection of ₹23 crore 82 lakh in its first weekend.
On its fifth day, a Monday, the film experienced a significant drop in earnings. Morning show occupancy saw a 65-70% decrease compared to the first day, and ticket rates were reduced. As per reports, Coolie’s fifth-day (Monday) All India gross collection across all languages is approximately ₹12.5 crore. This brings Coolie’s total five-day India gross collection to ₹256 crore 47 lakh. Additionally, the film’s overseas gross collection stands at ₹158 crore 76 lakh. Thus, Coolie’s total worldwide gross collection for the initial five days has reached ₹415 crore 23 lakh. With a budget of ₹375 crore, Coolie has surpassed its budget in just five days worldwide.
War 2 Box Office Collection Trends
The action-thriller War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra, features Hrithik Roshan and Junior NTR, alongside Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, and Anil Kapoor. The film, with a budget of ₹400 crore, was released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, with the Tamil version receiving a limited release of 200-250 screens. War 2’s first-day collection was tremendous, but subsequent collections saw a day-by-day decline.

Morning show occupancy dropped by 70-75% compared to the first day, and ticket rates were also reduced. The film’s fifth-day (Monday) All India gross collection across all languages is approximately ₹11 crore 25 lakh. This brings War 2’s total All India gross collection for the initial five days to ₹222 crore 60 lakh. The film’s five-day worldwide gross collection across all languages stands at ₹291 crore.

After five days, Coolie achieved a worldwide gross collection of ₹415 crore 23 lakh. In comparison, War 2 recorded a worldwide gross collection of ₹291 crore in the same period. Notably, Coolie’s earnings in the Telugu states surpassed War 2’s performance in that region.
